Any/No:
-we had to walk home because there was no bus.
Or there wasn’t any bus.
-Sara will have no difficulty finding a job.
Sara won’t have any difficulty.............. .
-you can use no+ noun at the begining of a sentence:
No reason was given for the change of plan.
We use none without a noun:
“How much money do you have?” “None”. = no money
This money is all yours. None of it is mine
After none of + plural( none of the students,none of them,etc.)the verb can be sigular or plural. A plural verb is more common:
- None of the stores were(was) open.
Nothing Nobody/no one Nowhere
-Nobody or No one came to visit me while I was in the hospital.
-”What happened?” “Nothing”
- “Where are you going?” “ Nowhere”. I’m staying here.
- The house is empty. There’s no one living there.
- We had nothing to eat.
Not+ anything / anybody,etc.
-I didn’t say anything.
-Janedidn’t tell anybody about her plans.
-They don’t have anywhere to live.
Possessive Pronouns:
Mark: Why have you brought your work home?
Sara: I’ll do it later. Let’s go now. Shall we take my car?
Mark: Well, i’d rather not take mine. I think there’s something wrong with it.
My, mine, your,etc. express possession and similar meaning. My car means the car belonging to me, your work means the work you are doing. My comes before a noun, e.g. My car. We use mine on its own.
